APRIL 30 – MAY 16, 2015
GALLERY 1 ::
Sara Morawetz, Stella Rosa McDonald, Harriet Body, Julie Fragar, Jonathan McBurnie, Brooke Carlson :: Between the Lines
From its function as an ordering system in the mechanisms of language, to its means as a vehicle for the rational and irrational, Between The Lines investigates multiple perspectives and interpretations of ‘written’ language, provoking a reflection upon the use of speech and text as tools for communication within the context of contemporary art. Through interdisciplinary mediums, the exhibition examines relationships between looking, listening, reading, drawing and writing, and how these are transformed at the intersections of science, literature, the human body and psychology.

Adrian Hobbs :: Come in Number 51, Your time is up
Adrian Hobbs’ painting practice explores both historic and contemporary conceptions of chaos; a generative medium from which all manner of forms emerge, and to which all form ultimately returns. Via a practice that is firmly anchored within the traditions of painting itself, he seeks to portray images that present multiple readings as opposed to a singular and unchanging reading that is forever fixed. In this way his work attempts to nurture an active subjectivity such that no singular reading holds precedence or authority above another.
To further explore these ideas Adrian has adapted the paintings for this show from the closing sequence of the 1971 anti-establishment film Zabriskie Point.
