Art Crit :: Heavenly Creatures, Coca-Colanised, & We are infinite.
Saturday April 7, 12-1pm, Collaborative Textile Gathering 1-3pm, Art crit with artists Marikit Santiago and Nicole Barakat.
Free // All welcome
Join artists and curators in a conversation about our March exhibitions, Heavenly Creatures, Coca-Colanised, & We are infinite. The discussion will cover key themes in each individual exhibition as well as the overarching themes of the three exhibitions. Featuring artists from Aotearoa, NZ (Afoa, Matila-Smith, Rangiwai-McHale), with ‘dual cultural identities as an Australian with Filipina ethnicity’ (Santiago) and with ‘ancestral homelands in the South West Asia and North Africa (SWANA) region’ (Barakat), the three exhibitions featured at Verge Gallery in March provide a range of personal insights, with responses to and criticism of colonisation. The discussion will unpack these core themes with artists and guests.
Join us from midday to attend Nicole Barakat’s final Collaborative Textile Gathering. More information here: https://verge-gallery.net/2018/01/14/series-collaborative-textile-gathering/
This afternoon of conversation is a space for informal yet thoughtful discussion around the exhibitions, artworks, arts practice, and other issues relating to the visual arts community.
