JULIE MCELHONE
“PORTRAIT OF A LADY’S COMMONPLACE BOOK”
ARTBOX, LEVEL 2 FISHER LIBRARY (2024)
ARTIST STATEMENT
McElhone explores archival/citational poetics imbued with non-linguistic inscription. McElhone sits with hand-written text hoping for a fervent immersion. To McElhone, the early modern manuscript is collaborator in movement, matter and experimentation, embracing notions of collecting, bookishness and legibility in the digital age.
This artist’s book has been selected as a non-acquisitive commission for the Tertiary category of the Libris Awards for 2025.
